Baylor Graduates Named Winners of Inaugural F. Ray Wilson II Award for Best Thesis

Baylor University graduates Kirsten Appleyard, Lisa Funkhouser and Carrie Wallis have been selected as the inaugural recipients of the F. Ray Wilson II Award for Best Thesis, which honors the life of the beloved Baylor professor of biology and Master Teacher, who directed 37 Honors theses during more than 30 years of teaching at the university.

Honors Program Students contribute to record number of Fulbright bids

Seven of the record number of fulbright scholarship applications came from Honors Program students. We lok forward to hearing about those successful in their bid for a 2009-2010 Fulbright scholarship in January. Professor Elizabeth Vardaman, a faculty member of the Honors Program and the Associate Dean (College of Arts & Sciences) responsible for the fulbright application program is to be commended on her tireless efforts to assist students in preparing and refining their applicaitons, many of which were developed through multiple iterations.

Baylor Senior Recognized as Marion G. Wells Honors Fellow

The Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI), a national educational organization headquartered in Wilmington, Del., recently selected Kirsten Appleyard, a senior University Scholar from Renfrew, Ontario, Canada, as a Marion G. Wells Honors Fellow. She is one of 50 Honors Fellows selected for the 2008-09 academic year. Each year, ISI's prestigious Honors Program selects the nation's most talented undergraduates to participate in a year-long program of educational enrichment.

Baylor Students Selected For Fulbright Scholarship

Two Baylor University seniors - Lauren Hughes of Cedar Creek Lake and Cleyera Martin of Kemp - have been selected to receive the prestigious Fulbright Scholarship, bringing the number of Baylor students who have received the honor since 2001 to 14. The flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government, the Fulbright Program is designed to "increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries."

Honors Student - One of four Outstanding Delegates

Baylor University's Model Arab League team brought back to campus four Outstanding Delegate Awards. Eric Headstream, senior Philosophy Major and Honors Program student was one of them. The Team was lead by Dr. Mark Long, associate professor in the Baylor Interdisciplinary Core and Church-State Studies and director of Baylor's Middle East Studies program. Other Honors students in the team, awarded one of Oustanding Delegation citations were: Meggaen Neely, Huma Patel, and Meagan Raley.
