Funding Opportunities for Graduate Students

We realize that conducting research and other forms of scholarship generally requires funding. Sometimes, graduate students are associated with faculty who are supported on external funding and the graduate students' research can be supported by that funding. But, oftentimes, graduate students themselves need to locate funding independently for their dissertation or thesis projects.

Some agencies and foundations offer research support directly to graduate students. The purpose of this section of the Graduate School website is to connect graduate students with some of those support opportunities. These support opportunities are divided into following areas:

Information provided, as drawn from the organizations' web sites, is a brief overview of the purpose of the organization, funding programs specifically for graduate students, and the relevant web links. Undoubtedly, the list is far from comprehensive. As you encounter other relevant sources, we ask that you forward those links to us so that we can, if appropriate, add those to this synopsis. Always involve your major professor in these efforts to obtain external funding. And, realize that considerable lead-time (sometimes as much as a year) and specific deadlines are involved in the grantsmanship process. So, plan ahead!

Please advise us of your experiences as you apply for funding from these and other sources. Best wishes for great success!!
