Brittany TranBrittany Tran came to Baylor with violin in tow from Houston, Texas. A biology major, Brittany found her place in the Hispanic Families in Transition Engaged Learning Group (ELG).
"I really enjoy being a part of the Hispanic Families ELG. Every Monday night, my hall mates and I teach English to Hispanic parents at Lake Air Middle School. The volunteering experience has been great because of the bond that I have formed with many of the families. Last semester, one of the ladies (Carmen) had us meet her newborn baby boy by bringing him to lab night. As all of us congratulated Carmen and fussed over her baby, I thought it was wonderful that the relationship we formed with Carmen through teaching her English allowed us to celebrate with her the birth of her son."
"Because students in ELGs live together, I had an easier time making friends which helped me adjust to college. As a result, I have made some of my best friends through the program. Dr. Wood, Dr. Choucair, and Dr. Rogers are understanding professors who go out of their way in order to help you."
