Associate Master
Dr. MICHELE L. HENRY serves as the Associate Master of Brooks College. She joins her husband, Dr. Douglas Henry (the Master of Brooks College), in shaping and sharing life together with the members of the college, in hosting a variety of activities and events in the Master's Residence and around the college, and in offering counsel and encouragement to the college's members.Dr. Henry is Associate Professor of Choral Music Education at Baylor University and director of the Women's Choir. She holds the Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Minnesota where she completed her dissertation on "The Development of a Vocal Sight-Reading Inventory," the results of which have yielded an individualized vocal sight-reading test that is used by classroom educators and researchers alike. Dr. Henry also holds a Master of Music Education degree from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Oklahoma Baptist University. In addition to directing the Women's Choir at Baylor, Dr. Henry teaches a variety of choral methods courses, supervises student teachers, and is the advisor to the Baylor University Music Educators Association (BUMEA).
A specialist in vocal sight-reading materials, techniques, and assessment, Dr. Henry is published in the Journal of Research of Music Education, the Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, UPDATE: Applications of Research in Music Education, the Journal of Music Teacher Education, Choral Journal, Symposium: The Journal of the College Music Society, Texas Music Education Research, the Southwestern Musician, and Connections. She has presented research and clinics at national and regional MENC conventions, at state and district-level conventions in Texas, Ohio, and Tennessee, and at other specialized music education research conferences across the nation. Dr. Henry is a qualified PRAXIS III assessor.
The Henrys are the parents of a three-year-old son, Zachary, whose exuberant spirit and voice make it easy to find him around the college. Dr. Henry loves Broadway musicals and is an avid sports fan—with NFL football, NCAA basketball, and tennis as her favorites. She is also a decorated Disney trivia champion.
