Students in the 5th and 6th grades at Lake Air Intermediate School are invited to participate in this after-school activity led by Dr. Cyndi Hernandez, Assistant Director for Educational Outreach and Research for CASPER, the Center for Astrophysics, Space Physics, and Engineering Research at Baylor University.

Students will engage in weekly activities designed to stimulate critical thinking, develop problem solving skills, and discover exciting science careers for the 21st Century.

In addition to the club meetings, we will have a Stargazing Party hosted by the Central Texas Astronomical Society and a Space Science Olympiad team competition.

Some of the things we will do include:
  • Competing in the Engineering Design Challenge: Seeds in Space
  • Using a thermal imaging device
  • Making lava explosions and crater impacts
  • Demonstrating what occurs in a Black Hole
  • Using spectrometers to identify properties of stars and planets
  • Interviewing an astrophysicist
